It’s often said that necessity is the mother of invention, but in this case necessity is the grandmother of invention. When that necessity involves two hungry young grandchildren and a “Mema” with Louisiana cooking talent.  In these moments it’s a sure bet that a recipe will evolve…..not that this fine southern lady has EVER followed a recipe!!

So what happens when a quick and healthy idea results in empty plates and happy kids?

22 years and a dash of this and a chop of that… two peabrains decide this needs to be shared for the well being of all humankind!! That’s it.. and because it was appointed the name of that “Chick Pea Stuff” from the beginning, there was no question what we would call it.
From the love in our hearts for feeding those little (and large) hungry souls who can not wait a second longer to tame their appetite, we offer the “stuff” that is sure to please! In fact, we double dog dare you to imagine what endless possibilities you can come up with to use this “stuff”…..but be very careful! It is truly addictive–no kidding!!

Who are the Creators of ChickPea Stuff?

chick-pea-ownersThe founders, Jane and Kris, have created a unique food that not only tastes delicious, but is extremely healthy and will accent meals like a greek omelet or chicken and rice. Wine pairings are easy because it goes with any white, red, rose-my favorite is a red zinfandel!

So, how did Jane get to be a Mema who made the first chickpea salsa ever? She grew up in one of the food capitals of the world, New Orleans, Louisiana. Jane started cooking at the age of 10. There was a dash of this, a dash of that, all through school at LSU, then on to Baton Rouge where she started learning the business world as an Allstate Agency owner in Denham Springs, Louisiana. She also had to use her culinary skills to feed a growing son, Josh, (yep, eventually the Dad of the beautiful girls, Morgan and Cameron, who know Jane only as Mema!). On to the panhandle of Florida, delving even more into the business world as a financial advisor with Edward Jones. One of the things she is most proud of is being a member of the women’s initiative at Edward Jones to advance the number of women in the financial industry. She retired from Edward Jones and is now cooking to her hearts content with her wife Kris to bring you Chick Pea Stuff! However, she is not all business and food. She loves the outdoors and has her Utah Master Naturalist in Watersheds and Mountains and is passionate about sustainability no matter what the endeavor. She adores traveling! An avid hiker (when she isn’t in the kitchen or reading) Jane also enjoys cycling. As Mountain Trails say, her “garage is her trailhead”. She is already working her magic to bring you more iterations of Chick Pea Stuff. Stay tuned!

Kris Burns has spent the majority of her adult life living curiously. Entrepreneurship, travel, and culinary interest have paved the way to many opportunities. She is currently living in Park City, Utah with her spouse and three puppies while continuing to embrace all that life has to offer!
